TRIATHLON AT OLYMPICS It may only be 21 years since they were first included in the Olympic programme at Sydney 2000, but in the five editions since, the men's and women's triathlon races have established themselves as must- watch events at the Games. It was impossible not to be moved by Alistair Brownlee winning a home gold at London 2012 and becoming the only person to defend his Olympic triathlon title four years later. Who can forget the drama of the sprint finish between Nicola Spirig and Lisa Norden that same year, or Hamish Carter bouncing back from disappointment in Sydney to win at Athens 2004? Emma Snowsill's win at Beijing 2008 is one of the all-time great triathlon performances, echoed by Gwen Jorgensen eight years later and of course the first ever triathlon golds awarded to Brigitte McMahon and Simon Whitfield. Tokyo 2020 will not only see two great individual champions of course. The mixed team relay is set to write a whole new chapter in triathlon's Olympic history, and ready to capture the imaginations of the world.
