ATHLETES' BIOS - WOMEN BEL VALERIE BARTHELEMY Previously a competitive swimmer, Belgium's Valerie Barthelemy had her first full international triathlon season in 2019, winning a bronze medal at European Championships in the Mixed Team Relay with the Belgian Hammers. In 2019 she joined The Triathlon Squad, a training group coached by Paulo Sousa, with fellow Belgian Claire Michel. The same year, the 30-year-old earned three bronze medals at the World Triathlon Cups in Chengdu, Cagliari, and Miyazaki. Tokyo will be Barthelemy's debut on the Olympic stage and she will be setting herself big goals in both the individual and mixed team relay events.
