WELCOME TO TOKYO Welcome to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Para Triathlon Guide! The Japanese capital Tokyo will be the stage for incredible sporting performances over the coming days and weeks, with Odaiba Bay hosting eight para triathlon races that are set to captivate the world again, just as they did when we made our Games debut at Rio 2016. To reach that point was a long and hugely important journey for our athletes, and I couldn't be more proud of what was achieved five years ago. Now, we get to go again, with two more medal events added to the schedule to give even more of these amazing individuals and their teams the opportunity to compete for the biggest prize in the sport: Paralympic gold. The 80 men and women that have made it to the Tokyo start lines represent an ever-growing number of para triathletes around the world. It was the trail-blazers who had been flying the flag for para triathlon for many years who made those historic two days in Rio de Janeiro possible, and those who showed the best of our sport to new audiences of millions back in 2016 who have paved the way for this current surge in popularity, including many of those on the Tokyo 2020 start lists. World Triathlon is enormously proud of its athletes and the journeys they have come through to qualify for Tokyo 2020. Now, we are ready to once again show the world the beauty and thrill of our sport. I hope that this guide enhances your enjoyment by revealing some of the stories behind the performances you will witness, and that together we can give our athletes the spotlight they deserve as they compete for the biggest prize of them all – Paralympic gold.
