ERIC McELVENNY Eric McElvenny won his first World Triathlon Series medal in Leeds this year, underlining the talent of a man who had only tackled his first race on the blue carpet in March 2019. The former Marine was injured by an IED while serving in the US army and after losing his leg, vowed to use adversity to do something incredible. He has now completed eight Ironman races and hits the Tokyo 2020 start line after making the Paralympic Games his next goal. His progress since an 11th place finish in WPS Devonport at the start of 2020 has been remarkable, following up on his Leeds podium with silver in Besançon and preparing to try and go one better again in Tokyo.
