PARA TRIATHLON AT PARALYMPICS It was on 11 December 2010 that the news the triathlon family had been waiting for was finally confirmed: para triathlon would be included on the schedule of the Paralympic Games for the first time at Rio 2016. The decision from the IPC came at the end of a long road that began with the first Para Triathlon World Championships in 1995 and ended at the IPC Board Meeting in Guangzhou, China ahead of the 10th Asian Para Games. President and Vice-President of the then International Triathlon Union, Marisol Casado and Sarah Springman, were both instrumental in the effort to see triathlon added to the Paralympic programme and, after six medal events were held in Rio, that number was increased to eight for Tokyo 2020, underlining the impact the sport had on its debut. 94 - World Triathlon Media Guide Tokyo 2020 - Paralympics
