Italy's Bianca Seregni had one gold left in her World Cup season as she dominated the 2023 circuit's penultimate race in Miyazaki. Leading from the swim, Yuko Takahashi, Márta Kropkó, Italy's Alice Betto and Canada's Sophia Howell were all in tow. Seregni smoothly transitioned to the 8-lap 40km bike course, where a lead group of 7, featuring the Italian duo, Spain's Cecilia Santamaria Surroca, and China's Xinyu Lin, came together. The chasers, led by Australia's Kira Hedgeland and including Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen, gradually closed the gap and at the midpoint the groups formed into one pack of 18 athletes riding together, Lehair and Takahashi doing a lot of the work upfront, Jorgensen right in the mix too. Out onto the 10km run, Seregni held nothing back, Lehair on her shoulder but unable to stay the pace, Jorgensen coming through but unable to catch the impressive Seregni as the American took silver ahead of Lehair in third. 28 Oct 2023 Elite Women 102 contents
