The World Cup circuit moved on to the Olympic-distance challenge of Weihai, China, where Poland's Michal Oliwa led the 1.5km ocean swim, local favourite Nanhe Wang impressively sticking with the leaders. A group of 19 men then formed at the front of the bike, including Austria's Leon Pauger, Japan's Makoto Odakura and Jumpei Furuya, New Zealand's Trent Thorpe, Ireland's Russell White, Germany's Lasse Nygaard Priester, and Mexico's Crisanto Grajales led the 40km bike. Luxembourg's Gregor Payet, Japan's Ren Sato and Israel's Itamar Eshed led the chase 30 seconds behind, and successfully caught on by the halfway mark, a large pack pouring in to transition together to rack their bikes. On the 10km run, Grajales surged ahead, leading out of the transition before Japan's Aoba Yasumatsu briefly took the lead, followed by Priester, Sato, and Duchampt. Grajales closed the gap again on the downhill charge, eventually taking control and ultimately the gold with Odakura in second and Priester with bronze. 26 Aug 2023 Elite Men 68 contents
