In the World Triathlon Cup New Plymouth, 58 elite athletes gathered in Taranaki, New Zealand, for the sprint- distance triathlon. The course included a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run. New Zealand's Hayden Wilde, an Olympic bronze medalist, initially lagged in the swim but showcased remarkable transition speed. He joined the front pack during the bike leg, dominating the race alongside leaders like Tayler Reid, Ricardo Batista, and Nicolo Strada. Wilde's powerful run secured his first World Cup gold, a historic achievement for New Zealand at this event since 2009. Tayler Reid claimed silver, and Ricardo Batista earned bronze in a thrilling sprint finish. Wilde expressed joy at achieving success on home soil, fulfilling expectations from friends and family. Despite facing early-week injuries, Batista was pleased with his third- place finish. The event marked a significant milestone for Hayden Wilde, balancing Olympic and World Cup victories. 26 Mar 2023 Elite Men 52 contents
