The 2023 World Triathlon Cup Huatulco unfolded in hot and humid conditions in Southern Mexico. Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk, the defending champion, emerged as a frontrunner after the 750m ocean swim and led the race out onto the 20km bike course. A group of 13 elite men, including Mislawchuk, Spain's David Castro, Chile's Diego Moya, and 2023 champion Genis Grau, established a significant lea, New Zealand's Kyle Smith, known for his powerful biking, also featuring in the lead group. By the final lap, now with Australia's Jake Birtwhistle and Luke Bate in tow, had a substantial advantage over the chasing pack. The opening stages of the 5km run saw Mislawchuk, Castro, and Mexico's Aram Michell Penaflor Moysen pushing the pace, but it was Castro who made a decisive move in the final 50 metres, securing victory in a thrilling sprint finish down the blue carpet, Mislawchuk with silver and Penaflor the bronze. 17 Jun 2023 Elite Men 56 contents
