The 5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run course in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza, was fast and flat, and there was no pause for breath as the athletes attacked from the outset, only for Emma Pallant and Zsanett Bragmayer to break clear and turn it into a two-person race for the title. Bragmayer couldn't quite match the early speed of Germany's Celine Kaiser and found herself half a minute back as the first athletes headed out onto the 3-lap bike segment, but the Hungarian was able to pull up to the leaders and then rolled the dice with a breakaway that only Pallant could stay with.
