The Elite Women's World Triathlon Cup in Huatulco, Mexico, unfolded under intense heat for the sprint- distance format of 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run. Home favourite Rosa Maria Tapia Vidal led the swim, joined by Yifan Yang of China and Brazil's Djenyfer Arnold, Olympic silver medallist Katie Zaferes and Olympic Champion Gwen Jorgensen were in pursuit. A strategic lead group formed on the bike, with Dominika Jamnicky and Charlotte Derbyshire taking turns up front, Gina Sereno was able to bridge the gap. A massive pack of 40 women, including Zaferes, Jorgensen, entered transition but it was Mexico's run talent Alvarez Corral who immediately surged ahead early on the run, going on to secure her first World Cup victory. Jorgensen made a brilliant comeback to claim silver, while Mercedes Romero Orozco sprinted to bronze, her first World Cup medal. 17 Jun 2023 Elite Women 58 contents
