The inaugural Tangier World Cup in Morocco saw a tough sprint-distance challenge and, despite the warm conditions, the 18-degree ocean water prompted a wetsuit swim in the high waves. South Africa's Jamie Riddle showed off his exceptional swim skills, gaining a significant lead of almost 20 seconds. Battling through mechanical issues early on the bike, Riddle was joined by Ricardo Batista and Angel Sanchez Carreras, the Portuguese along with Tyler Mislawchuk facing early exits as they came off. Nevertheless a formidable biking group, led by Jonas Schomburg and Panagiotis Bitados, stayed closely knit. Pierre Le Corre was quickly setting the pace out onto the 5km run, only for Spain's young winner in Valencia David Cantero to draw alongside. Le Corre's tactics were to prove on point, however, and a brief moment up front was then forgotten as Le Corre attacked and hit the blue carpet all alone, Cantero with silver and Vetle Thorn securing the bronze.. 1 Oct 2023 Elite Men 80 contents
