Italy's Bianca Seregni once again looked at home in the water at the Weihai World Cup to lead the 1.5km ocean swim by more than 20 seconds over Bailee Brown of Hong Kong and home favourite Wen Wei. Out onto the 40km bike course, a main group of 18 women formed, including Seregni, Austria's Lisa Perterer, Slovakia's Romana Gajdošová and Spain's Anna Godoy Contreras, who all took turns leading. The chase group, featuring Luxembourg's Eva Daniels, Slovakia's Ivana Kuriackova, and Japan's Minori Ikeno, tried to close the gap but it was China's Wen Wei who led the main group into the final transition along with Britain's Hollie Elliot who impressed in her World Cup debut. Out onto the 10km run, Seregni continued to dominate, extending her lead and securing World Cup gold by nearly half a minute over Perterer in second marking a strong comeback from injury, while Italy's Ilaria Zane secured bronze. 26 Aug 2023 Elite Women 70 contents
